Dexia is a European bank which concentrates its activity in public sector banking, offering complete banking and financial solutions to local public sector operators, and in retail and commercial banking.

Proximity

Dexia plays a major role in the financing of local authority equipment and infrastructure, the health and social housing sectors and the social economy. Today the Group operates principally in France, Belgium, Italy and the Iberian Peninsula.

Dexia also offers a complete range of retail, commercial and private banking services as well as insurance products to more than six million clients, principally in Belgium, Luxembourg and Turkey, with a presence also in Slovakia.

Asset management and investor services are also major activities in retail and commercial banking.

Transformation

The international financial crisis which occurred from 2007 led the Group to implement a strategic transformation plan. This aims to refocus Dexia on its historical activities and to reduce its risk exposure.

At the end of 2008, Dexia had 36,760 members of staff and an equity capital base of 17.5 billion euros.
