France: a session of the School for Citizenship in Avignon

Access to culture for the greatest number and support for solidarity projects are two lines of Dexia sponsorship. Indeed, in France the bank has been supporting the Avignon Festival for 27 years as its main sponsor.

It was there, from 19 to 23 July, that the 23rd session was held of the School for Citizenship, created by the Dexia Foundation France. Diplomas were awarded to the young participants on 23 July at the City Hall in Avignon by Marie-José Roig, Deputy Mayor, and Michel Blanc, President of the Dexia Foundation France.

For the 14 young people involved, this event provided an opportunity to exchange views on citizen commitment, to understand the concept and to be involved in constructing the society of tomorrow. They also attended several theatre performances in the most iconic of the “in” festival venues, they met artists, comedians and producers and had a chance to learn how the festival works and how those putting on shows go about their trade.

As an extension of this partnership, the Dexia Foundation and the Avignon Festival invited some fifty young people from the local mission for the Avignon area to attend some of the “in” shows.
